3 Must-See Western Adventures for Summer: From Cowboy Country to Hidden Hot Springs

The American West isn’t just a destination—it's a whole state of mind. Wide open spaces, rodeo dust, mountain peaks, and small-town legends come alive in the summertime. If you’re craving a true Western adventure, I’ve got three unforgettable routes to saddle up for. Whether you're chasing bucking broncs or just looking for that soak-and-sunset moment, these are my top picks for Summer 2025

# 1. Jackson Hole, Wyoming – Start in Salt Lake City, Hit the High Country

If you’re headed to Jackson Hole don’t fly straight in—fly into Salt Lake City, Utah instead. Trust me. The drive is half the magic. Rent a car, grab a playlist full of George Strait and Zach Bryan, and hit the open road north. The views will take your breath away.

➡️ My Route: I have a very specific scenic route I recommend (it’s a Boot Babe secret!). If you’re interested in the full breakdown—with stops, eats, and photo ops— DM me at @thebootbabe on IG or shoot me an email thebootbabes@gmail.com, and I’ll personally send it to you. It’s too good to gatekeep.

On the way up:

* Bear Lake, Utah/Idaho line– Known as the "Caribbean of the Rockies." Turquoise water, raspberry shakes, and cute roadside shops.
* Afton, Wyoming– Home to the world’s largest elk antler arch. Small-town charm and a great place to stretch your legs.

Once you reach Jackson Hole, the wild west meets rugged luxury. Ride horses at sunset, explore Grand Teton National Park, hit the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar, and shop the town square. It’s pure Western magic.

# 2. Sheridan to Miles City to Cheyenne – The Real Rodeo Run

If you're chasing the cowboy lifestyle from the source, this is the route for you. Start in Sheridan, Wyoming—a town where history still rides horseback—and head north to Miles City, Montana for the legendary Bucking Horse Sale (think a rodeo-meets-auction-meets-town-party).

🪶 Can’t-Miss Stop:

*Bighorn Mountains – Winding mountain passes and panoramic views that’ll leave your jaw on the floor.
* Little Bighorn Battlefield – A sacred place with real weight and history.

Then loop down to Cheyenne, Wyoming for Frontier Days—one of the largest and oldest rodeos in the world. If you’ve never two-stepped in a stadium full of cowboy hats or watched wild horses thunder out of a chute, this is your time.

👉 Bonus: These three stops are all on the same side of the state, making the loop efficient for a week-long trip (or more if you’re soaking it all in slow).

#3. David Walley’s Hot Springs Resort – Genoa/Reno, Nevada**

You heard it here first: David Walley’s Hot Springs is the secret Western spa spot you didn’t know you needed. Tucked into the high desert near Genoa (just outside Reno, Nevada), this historic hot springs resort is surrounded by sagebrush, snowcapped peaks, and total serenity.

💦 Why it’s amazing:

* Natural mineral pool overlooking the mountains
* Quiet, uncrowded, and rustic in the best way
* A cozy lodge feel with on-site dining, massages, and star-gazing opportunities
* It's also a great stopover between Lake Tahoe and the Reno Rodeo if you're making a loop

Whether you’re relaxing your trail-weary bones or ending a boot-stomping road trip, this place is a dream. It’s where the West goes to unwind.

Summer in the West is about freedom, exploration, and a little dirt under your boots. Whether you’re dancing at Cheyenne Frontier Days or soaking in the silence of Walley’s Hot Springs, these trips feed the soul.
